Icarus, a student literary magazine founded in 1950 by Alec Reid, is Ireland’s oldest creative arts publication. Icarus accepts submissions of poetry, prose, drama and visual art from students, staff and alumni of Dublin University for publication three times each academic year. Over the years, it has featured original work by everyone from Louis MacNeice to William S. Burroughs, as well as launching the careers of former student contributors Michael Longley, Derek Mahon, Eavan Boland and Brendan Kennelly.
Former editors include Rudi Holzapfel, Brendan Kennelly, Derek Mahon, Michael Longley, Iain Sinclair, David Norris, John Haffenden, Maurice Scully, Sebastian Barry, Eiléan Ní Chuilleanáin, David Wheatley, and Selina Guinness. All content is edited and compiled by the magazine’s elected student editorial panel. More information is available on the magazine’s website.
